Many people view their lavatory as a retreat where they can hide out at the end of the day and savour a long soak in the tub or a steaming, hot shower.  These days, bathrooms are more than only bathrooms.  Many people use lavatories as a retreat from life. 

Many of us would really like to improve our toilets but feel the costs could be overpowering and out of our reach.  Actually, a bathroom remodel does not have to be such a major expense.  There are several tiny things that we are able to do to our loos which will greatly improve them without draining our bank accounts in the method. 

Update the Bathroom Tiles

One change we will make is to simply update the tiles in the lavatory.  I have seen too many lavatories where the tiles appear to be the least expensive thing the builder could source.  They’re plain and dull.  There are no real patterns or attraction. 

I’m really not announcing that we have to go in and replace all the tile in the bathroom either.  If everything is just too neutral, we’d wish to consider some accent tiles here and there to add a splash of colour.  In doing this, we might decide to make some colourful patterns on the floors or walls.  If that appears like too much work and expense, we could consider simply doing some colored tiles to focus on areas around the bathtub or sink. 

There are tons of good books available on the easiest way to install tile and it doesn’t need to be a major project.  There also are free resources available. 

Here in the US, lots of the big-box home improvement stores will happily provide you with free info, or even classes, on the best way to install tile. 

Updating cupboards and Fixtures

Another thing we can do to actually improve the appearance of our toilet or for a simple bathroom remodel is to consider updating the cupboards and fixtures. 

For the cupboards, we do not always have to replace them since that may be expensive.  Putting on a fresh coat of paint or re-staining them can make a massive difference in their appearance.  This can make the cabinets look almost new and someone who sees them might believe that we have essentially replaced them. 

The light fixtures that builders install are often not awfully appealing.  Replacing those cheap fixtures can be a drastic improvement.  Light fittings can be exceedingly cheap and can significantly improve the appearance of the room. 

If we have old, nauseating taps in the lavatory, we will be able to update them with more recent, nicer ones.  New chrome or brass faucets could look great.  This is particularly true if we get something more stylish. 

Like the lighting and faucets, we will also replace the knobs on the cabinets with something nicer.  Knobs are very simple to replace and they don’t seem to be extremely pricey.  After painting or staining the cabinets, just imagine how nice they would look after we put shiny, new hardware on them. 

Merely a Splash of Paint

One of the least inexpensive things we are able to do to modify the appearance of our lavatories is to paint them.  A fresh coat of paint, in a nice color, can make it feel just like a new toilet.  You may either paint all the walls the same color or even just create an accent wall to boost the general appearance.  We can add some warm colors or we can add some bold colors, depending on our personal taste. 

All we should do is use our imagination to think about some things we will do to dress up the space without spending too much cash.  We are able to go to our local do-it-yourself store and just scan around for ideas.  As we look at different ideas, we will be able to estimate how much it might cost us to make those changes.  In fact, we will be able to make changes to our lavatories without spending great amounts.  Just let your financial position be your guide and be creative.
