About

Replacement window ratings come in different forms. I mean in the years I have been in the industry I have come across hundreds of ways to rate house windows. In fact I have previously written a few reviews and article on this subject myself. Interestingly each write up has offered something different because of the dynamic nature of this subject.

Well today I will provide some few more useful thoughts that I haven’t really shared anywhere else before. So read right through to the end and you will be glad you did.

The most common forms of replacement window ratings include using the R-value and the U-values, the ENERGY STARĀ®, consumer reports and the NFRC ratings.

The values are applied by manufactures during the manufacturing stage of the windows. You can check them out on the label when you visit a store to buy them. One thing I have noted in recent times is that some of these values are fake and are a serious cause for concern.

To avoid falling prey of these scams you need to be certain that the values you see are based on currently acceptable standards. The most prominent standard authority is the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

You can also reply on the ENERGY STAR ratings as these are government controlled and ensure that the seal is placed on qualifying items only. Similary the NFRC ratings can be trusted because they are made by a well respected entity in the industry. For the benefit of those who may not know NFRC stands for, National Fenestration Rating Counsel.
